PPE Society Sixth Annual Meeting 2022
We will hold the SIXTH stand-alone PPE Society Meeting November 3-5, 2022, in New Orleans at the Renaissance Pere Marquette Hotel. Learn more about this venue.
The 2022 Keynote Speakers are Raj Chetty and Jenna Bednar.
Program Schedule
Please review the program schedule. The program will be fully digital this year (no paper programs), so please use this link or download the Whova app to access the program schedule. The program code for accessing the conference event in the app is ppesociety2022. The app will go live on August 3.
Session chairs/proposers, if you have not already confirmed, please respond to this email with your confirmation, copying your speakers and providing the title of the session (for my ease); if a speaker in the session is unable to confirm, please let us know as soon as you can that you are searching for a replacement. If your entire session cannot confirm, please let us know that, too, so that we can fill the slot. Papered sessions, if you have not already confirmed, please respond individually to this email with each of your confirmations, or let us know if you cannot confirm, so that we may find a suitable replacement. Please note that we are still planning to hold this conference in-person and will be unable to accommodate virtual talks.
It is still early enough that we can make corrections where needed. In the coming weeks, I will be updating each session description with a link that will take you to the session abstracts. If your paper title or abstract needs an update, or if anything needs a correction, please send that update at your earliest convenience by emailing ppesociety@unc.edu.
If you do not have a moderator for your session yet, please secure one and let me know who should be assigned. If you would like to moderate a session listed, please let me know of 2-3 session that strike your interest, and I’ll assign you.
Registration, Insurance, and Cancellation
Because so much of the value of the conference consists of the in-person conversations and discussions, we’re planning on it being all in-person. We do know, though, that travel may be an uncertainty for some, and we realize, too, that COVID or other urgent needs may make travel impossible, so this year we are offering a new add-on insurance option with your registration. When selecting your registration ticket, please notice that you have one of two options in your tier: 1.) registration or 2.) registration + insurance.
If you purchased registration cancellation insurance during checkout, and you need to cancel your attendance, you are entitled to a full refund if you email us your cancellation before the conference starts. If you must cancel, please let us know ASAP. We need a full two weeks to adjust our program schedule when speakers cancel, as we search for replacements, re-organize sessions, and update our materials. If you do not purchase insurance, refunds are not guaranteed.
Whova Transaction Fees
To cover transaction fees associated with their processing program (Stripe), Whova charges 8.4% + $1.29 for each registration ticket.
Hotel Room Block
The room block is now filled, however, there are still some rooms at the venue hotel that are not on the block, if you prefer to stay at the conference hotel. You may be able to book here on their main website (but rooms are going fast). You may also be interested in booking that single night on the room block, and booking the rest of your stay at the general non-block rate. I’d recommend reaching out to the hotel directly (Ph: 504-525-1111) to inquire about that hybrid pricing possibility, with the option of staying in the same room. It is possible that we will have some room block cancellations later on, but that is unlikely at this point. If multiple rooms become available, I will send a communication via the Whova platform.
Three alternate hotels we recommend are the A-Loft (1 min walk from the venue), the Holiday Inn (4 min walk), and New Orleans Marriott (7 min walk).
Otherwise, I’ve found it helpful to do a Google search for hotels near 817 Common Street for many more options that are in walking distance.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further guidance!
Travel Assistance
Our travel funding application is now closed.
Do consider exploring some of the funding options offered by the Institute for Humane Studies.
PPE Society Zip-Up Sweatshirts and T-Shirts
We have a limited supply of sweatshirts ($20) and t-shirts ($15), available in several sizes for purchase as a registration add-on in Whova. Once ordered, you’ll receive your sweatshirt and/or t-shirt in-person at the conference check-in table. We will also have these for purchase at the conference, while supplies last. If purchased via Whova, Stripe transaction fee will be included.
